AI position statement
As advancements in generative artificial intelligence (AI) continue to shape industries, economies, and educational landscapes, Jamestown Community College recognizes the potential of AI to enhance learning experiences, streamline administrative processes, prepare students and the community for a world increasingly influenced by AI technologies. We understand that AI is a rapidly evolving field. As such, we will learn and continue to review our policies, procedures, and educational offerings and adapt them in accordance with the best evidence available at the time.
Innovation
As bc体育足球 continues to align our actions to our mission, the college will employ artificial intelligence to provide inclusive educational opportunities for our college community, our region, and its employers. Judicious use of AI will pave the pathway for the innovation necessary for the bc体育足球 community to keep pace with a changing world.
Ethics
Artificial Intelligence offers opportunity and threat in equal measures. Integrity demands that bc体育足球 strives to address with fairness and transparency the issues of academic honesty, information security, intellectual property, and privacy that AI raises.
Equity/access
While costs associated with AI threaten to widen the digital divide, bc体育足球 strives to provide equitable access to AI tools ensuring its benefits are inclusive and its use eliminates barriers for all individuals.
Training
bc体育足球 recognizes training needs in four elements of its community: bc体育足球 employees, bc体育足球 students, employers, and local community members. Training needs include effective and ethical generative AI use and information security, privacy and intellectual property rights as they relate to generative AI use. Training will be fluid to account for the ever-changing AI landscape.

- bc体育足球 students: Aligned with the college’s vision to “support our students’ journey to success in the local and global workplace with quality, in-demand learning experiences,” bc体育足球 provides opportunities through training and coursework for students to learn to use generative AI effectively and ethically.
- Employers: bc体育足球 values its strong partnerships with employers and endeavors to understand and meet the generative AI training needs of the workforce.
- Local community members: As a community college, bc体育足球 is committed to providing opportunities for local community members to learn how to use generative AI and understand its benefits in everyday life.
Sustainability
bc体育足球 is aware of the environmental impact of AI and will seek out ways to minimize this impact, while still recognizing the need to stay abreast of rapidly changing technologies.

AI holds transformative potential for community colleges, and its adoption requires thoughtful planning, ethical oversight, and alignment with our educational mission. bc体育足球 is dedicated to a balanced approach that enhances learning, respects privacy, and supports equitable access for all students. As we move forward, we will continue to foster dialogue and adjust our strategies, ensuring that AI serves as a tool to empower our students and employees as well as to strengthen our communities.
